It is the oldest whiskey distillery in America. Every drop of Jack Daniel's comes from Lynchburg, a Tennessee village with 600 inhabitants, half of whom work at Jack Daniel's. Unique is the charcoal filtering that makes Jack Daniel's a Tennessee Whiskey (a category in itself) and not a bourbon. Sour Mash is a distillation method using a special fermentation technique. One third yeast from the previous fermentation is mixed with two thirds of new yeasts and added to the batter. This gives the distillery extra flavors.
Jack Daniel's is a traditional whiskey brand, which is distilled in Lynchburg, Tennessee in the United States. The distillery was founded in 1875 by Jasper Newton Jack Daniel who was probably born in 1850 in a family of thirteen children. Daniel got a license to make his whiskey at the age of 16 and he was the first distiller to be registered in the US trade register. After Jack Daniels died in 1911, the distillery was taken over by his cousin Lem Motlow, whose company sells the brand to date. The company is now owned by the Brown-Forman Corporation.
Types of Jack Daniels American whiskey differs from, for example, Scotch whiskey by using corn as the main ingredient instead of barley. This also applies to all types of Jack Daniel's whiskey. Jack Daniel's differs from the other American whiskeys because it undergoes a charcoal filtering, which gives a unique taste to these whiskeys.
Jack Daniels Black Label - Also known as Jack Daniel's Old No.7, is the most sold brand and has an alcohol content of 40%. Jack Daniels Green Label - A four-year whiskey with an alcohol percentage of 40%. The barrels are stored in the open air, as a result of which the wood of the barrels breathes differently than when the barrels are stored inside. Jack Daniels Single Barrel - A special kind of whiskey, with an alcohol percentage of 45%. The main distiller chooses special containers and the whiskey is then filled in bottles unprocessed. These bottles are signed and marked with the number of the corresponding vessel. Gentleman Jack - With an alcohol percentage of 40%, the only type that goes through the process of charcoal filtering twice. Once before ripening in the barrel and again afterwards.
In Moore County where the distillery is located, the sale of alcohol is forbidden and there are no drink shops. The company has only been allowed to sell whiskey to tourists on a private basis since 1995, thanks to a special law, but not on Sundays.
The distillery is registered in the United States in the National Register of Historic Places. Jack Daniel's whiskey is frequently seen in films and music clips. The brand has a strong bond with the American Biker culture and country music.

Always wanted to know how Jack Daniel's is made? There is only one place in the world where you can go to find out. About one and a half hours outside of Nashville lies the small town of Lynchburg. There is the distillery that makes Jack Daniel's official whiskey.
A tour through Jack Daniel's distillery Jack Daniel's Jack Daniel's is probably the most famous whiskey brand in the world and that naturally attracts curious visitors. That's what Lynchburg comes up with: every day there are tours through the Jack Daniel's distillery and they are certainly worth it! Lynchburg is now visited by almost a quarter of a million tourists a year. It is hard to imagine that in this small town the millions of bottles of Jack Daniel's that are sold every year around the world are produced. Here, and nowhere else.
The basic tour was the last time I was there free, but it seems that the tour has become so popular that they have started asking for money. The tours of more than one hour are provided daily from 09:00 to 16:30. It is quite some climbing stairs, because the distillery has been there for almost 150 years. Although there has been some renewal here and there, everything is still built up against the hills of Tennessee. It is therefore an official monument.
Watch how the charcoal is made to filter the whiskey, take a pinch of the pure alcohol that rises from the kettles and discover one of the basic ingredients of Jack Daniel's: the water from the caves around which the distillery is built. The source in the caves is surrounded by limestone, making the water totally iron free. That sets Jack Daniel's apart from all other Tennessee whiskeys from the neighborhood. That, and of course all kinds of secret ingredients that they do not reveal.
Dry county They make millions of liters of whiskey a year in Lynchburg (and pay out bizarre amounts of tax!) But you can not buy a drop of liquor around the distillery. Really. The rural Moore County, with less than six thousand inhabitants, is a so-called dry county. Moore County takes the reclamation very seriously: it was already a dry country before the federal government enforced prohibition in the 1920s. That means you can not sell alcohol or consume it in public. So you can not buy a bottle of Jack Daniel's anywhere in the state. Fortunately, the distillery has something to make up: you can buy commemorative bottles in memory of your visit. You can get the whiskey that is still in there for free. Just be careful: you can not open and taste the bottle until you have crossed the boundaries of the county again! 'Old No. 7 'on the label
Here countless barrels of whiskey are ripe. Anyone who has ever held a bottle of Jack Daniel's may remember the square bottle. In addition, in the middle of the label of the whiskey bottles the text 'Old No. 7 '. Although it is prominent on all bottles, it is not clear to anyone what it stands for. There are several stories about the origin: would it be a batch number that Jack Daniel ever used? Or the number of a train carrying the whiskey? Or by chance Jack's lucky number? Other theories: Jack had seven girlfriends, he honored a friend who sold his whiskey in seven stores or he found a lost ton of whiskey after seven years. The most likely - but less sexy - theory comes from biographer Peter Krass: he indicated that it was his original tax number in the area. Although he was subsequently assigned another number by the IRS (American tax authorities), he retained no. 7 not to confuse his customers. This little rebellion can still be found on the label 125 years later.
The end of Jack Daniel
Jack Daniel was born as Jasper Newton Daniel. Already at a very young age he left his parental home to learn the art of whiskey making. In 1866 he started his distillery, first in the United States. This made Jack the first Master Distiller. As soon as he could, he bought the mineral-rich environment of the Cave Spring Hollow and settled on the current location.
Jack was always a hard worker. When it came time to slow down, he passed on his business to his cousin Lem Motlow. But Jack Daniel remained a workaholic and remained active within the company. When he arrived early at work one morning, Motlow was not there yet. The safe was therefore not open yet. Jack could not, according to tradition, remember the code and kicked frustrated against the safe. So hard that he broke his toe. The injury became worse and worse and led to blood poisoning. That eventually became the fall of Jack Daniel. During the tour, the warning is clearly given: 'Never come to work early'.
A ladies man At the front of Jack Daniel's grave there are two chairs. Jack was never married and had no children, but apparently, he was a womanizer. The chairs were placed near his grave so that women in love did not have to go to his grave, but could sit down for a while. In 1941, his successors also set up a life-size statue of Jack at the entrance of the cave. That statue is called 'Jack on the Rocks', a nod to the ice cold drinking of the most famous whiskey in the world.

Jack Daniel's is a premium quality Tennessee Whiskey, which is produced in the oldest registered distillery in America. It is a whiskey with its own character and taste.
The story starts in 1866 when the 17 year old Jack Daniel founded the distillery. Jack Daniel had a spring with excellent water just outside the small village of Lynchburg, in the middle of Tennessee. The water from the well, Cave Spring, was cool, clear and free from impurities such as iron. This water is still the main ingredient of Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey. The Lynchburg site in Tennessee is located in an open landscape, on a slight elevation. The distillery of Jack Daniel is hidden in a valley. The contours of the buildings are softened by scrub and green shrubs. A rock wall reveals a cave about six meters high and the water source must certainly lie deeper than 2000 meters, this source has never dried up. In the distillery, the wooden filter trays are sunk into the floor.
The three-meter high charcoal layer rests on a wool blanket. Directly above the charcoal layer is a maze of copper pipes that are perforated. Through these holes the whiskey drips on the charcoal and is filtered. It remains drops that come out of the holes and these never become streaks. This is monitored by large tour groups. It is a phenomenon, the cunning marketing way to present all this to the consumer, the city, the distillery, the ceremonies. The name of the founder, Jack Daniel, has become the most famous name for Tennessee Whiskey. At the distillery in Lynchburg, Jack Daniel is also immortalized in a statue at the distillery.
