Blanton's Bourbon Whiskey

The finest bourbon in the world comes from a single barrel. That’s the way Colonel Albert B. Blanton first bottled his private reserve bourbon whiskey nearly a century ago. Blanton believed the “center-cut” or middle sections of Warehouse H were the best for aging his bourbon. Personally tasting and choosing each barrel, these barrels were reserved and bottled for ambassadors, dignitaries, family and friends becoming the world’s first single barrel bourbon. His time honored tradition lives on today as only a handful of barrels from the center of Warehouse H are selected to become Blanton’s Single Barrel Bourbon.

The finest bourbon in the world can be traced back to one single barrel. It all began nearly a century ago with Colonel Albert Flint an idealistic stock boy, who worked his way up to become distillery president. He set out to create the finest Kentucky bourbon for his own private reserve.

It was in the center sections of the fabled metal-clad warehouse age. The Blanton discovered the distinctive bourbon from a single barrel which would one day revolutionize the industry.

No barrel blends is ready, until it’s truly ready....

In 1984 colonel Blanton’s former apprentice Elmer T. Lee revived his pioneering technique and introduced a single barrel bourbon to the world. Today whereas aged remains the exclusive source of Blanton’s bourbon, each barrel blends as bottled specifically by taste. Which means no barrel blends is ready, until it’s truly ready.

Blanton barrel international shipping USA online sale Only a select few of the finest barrels are deemed worthy of the Blanton’s name. The trademark recipe combining the sweetness of corn with rye malted barley along with the ageing process unique to warehouse age delivers Blanton’s signature rich amber colour and sweet mellow taste.
Once the single barrel is selected the Bourbon is poured from its oak cask in the Blanton’s signature barrel-shaped bottle. Then labelled packaged and sealed, all by hand. From the handwritten label each of the eight distinctive Kentucky thoroughbreds on top, every bottle of Blanton’s is a true original.
The characteristic taste makes every sip of award-winning Blanton’s bourbon unforgettable.
It is the preferred bourbon for those who appreciate exceptional quality. There’s nothing like the Blanton’s experience, every sip, every time. Blanton’s, the original single barrel bourbon.

Blanton's Bourbon Whiskey

Buffalo Trace Blanton’s derives its name from the American bison. The brand first appeared on the market in 1999, after the owner, Sazerac Company, completely renovated the George T. Stagg Distillery and changed the name to Buffalo Trace Blanton’s Distillery. No announcements are made about the mash bill, but very likely he has a fairly low rye share of about 10%. The whiskey matures on the middle floors of Warehouse C for about eight years. Buffalo Trace Blanton’s is an excellent bourbon that offers great value for money.

The history of Buffalo Trace Blanton’s

The history of Buffalo Trace Blanton’s can be traced back to 1792. In that year, Kentucky becomes the fifteenth of the United States and Commodore Richard Taylor builds in Lee's Town (later Leestown and now merged into Frankfort) "The Old Taylor House", a stone house from a floor that is still present at the current location.
This is followed in 1811 by a three-storey warehouse.

The first distillery here seems to have been founded in 1812 by Harrison Blanton, the namesake of the current bourbon. In 1858, Daniel Swigert built a distillery, which was taken over in 1869 by Colonel E.H. Taylor and renamed Old Fire Copper (O.F.C.) Distillery. In 1872 it is replaced by a new distillery, the cost amounts to the amount of $ 70,000.- for that time. Due to Taylor's financial problems, George T. Stagg takes O.F.C. in 1878, Taylor is in charge of the distillery.

"The Great Fire" destroyed the distillery in 1881, but in 1883 there is already a new, the present Dickel Building. Also in those years the Warehouse A, B and C were built that are still in use. O.F.C. was renamed George T. Stagg Distillery in 1904 and the company was sold to the Schenley Distillers Corporation in 1929. During the reclamation, the distillery remains in production for so-called medicinal whiskey. In the years 1933-1941 the complex is completely renewed and seven new large warehouses are being built.

Since 1992 the Sazerac Company is the owner of the distillery and its brands. A thorough renovation takes place in 1999, also the name in Buffalo Trace Blanton’s Distillery is changed and the bourbon with the same name is introduced. Since 11 March 2013, the complex has been a National Historic Landmark. Buffalo Trace Blanton’s has an estimated capacity of 10 million liters of whiskey per year.

The individual bottlings of the barrels can be very different. The Blanton`s owes its origin to a coincidence. Colonel Blanton had collected barrel samples from a particular warehouse for years. When his office was cleared, they were found. Chief distiller Elmer T. Lee found out that these whiskeys tasted uniquely unlike the other whiskeys of the distillery today called Buffalo Trace. He found out that they all came from the warehouse with the letter H. This warehouse has a different orientation than the others, so that the wind can ventilate it better. A Blanton's always comes from the warehouse H. All others warehouses produce other Bourbon. Say another terroir would not be important for the whiskey.
Blanton Horse Race
If you want, you can organize a horse race with the rider figures on the Blanton's bottles. The individual expressions are each provided with 8 different rider figures made of brass, which show a rider in the different phases of a race. Each position of the rider is assigned a letter of the word BLANTONS. The letter is located on the hind legs of the horses. That would certainly have pleased the enthusiastic horse colonel Colonel Blanton.

Blanton's Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey - The first one is his Art In Kentuckey

A single barrel of bourbon whiskey. Nothing special these days, one would think. At the market launch of the Blanton's 1984 that was completely different. Two years earlier, the George T. Stagg Distillery (now Buffalo Trace) changed hands again. New Yorkers Ferdie A. Falk and Robert C. Barandakas (renaming the distillery in Ancient Age Distillery) commissioned distillery manager Elmer T. Lee to develop a new product line.
Elmer T. Lee, born in 1919, was born in Kentucky and began his career after II. WK during his studies with Georg T. Stagg. In 1949, he hired for a full-time job, and got him despite an official hiring freeze. The legendary Col. Albert Blanton was Distillery Manager at the time and soon became aware of this promising young man. He promoted him until his retirement in 1952.

At that time, Lee was already "Engineering Superintendent" and became Plant Manager in 1968. When he was asked shortly before his own retirement to develop a novel product, he pursued the idea of a single-barrel bottling, which there was then no distillery on the market.
Actually, this idea was nothing new. Still at the end of the 19th century. The distillers sold their whiskeys in bulk to retailers. The customers came to the shops with their own jars and filled them up, so at the time the Whiskeys were strictly Single Barrel Bourbons.

At least since the Bourbon Act of 1964, this is no longer possible because the whiskeys were only sold bottled. The blending of different barrels serves the continuity of the quality and there Lee put in his reflections. With his experience, he knew that of the 13 warehouses, the "Warehouse H" offers good conditions for the maturation of whiskeys.
So a single barrel can have a certain consistency. And it is precisely from this warehouse that the barrels for Blanton's are personally selected by Elmer Lee. This remains so today, because even today, more than 20 years after his official retirement, the now 92-year-old Master Distiller Emeritus comes to the distillery every week.

This warehouse H was also the preferred destination of Col. Blanton, who served private guests and important people with whiskey directly from a barrel of the same location. This warehouse is clad with metal and becomes particularly warm in the hot summers in Kentucky. As a result, the whiskey in the barrel expands further and brings the flavors faster out of the barrel.
So Elmer T. Lee suggested the new owner to fill a single barrel bourbon and they thought it was a good idea. In honor of Col. Albert Blanton, this whiskey got its name. From the beginning 6-12 year old barrels were carefully selected, bottled by hand and labeled by hand. Each bottle is numbered, as well as the shelf number and the date of bottling on the bottle. All of the octagonal bottles adorn a horse with jockey as a fastener.
The horse has been around since the first bottling, as a tribute to the horse-crazy state of Kentucky, the jockey came later. In addition, the closures of the different versions each have a letter under the horse's right hind leg. If you take them all together, they will result in the letters: B L A N T O N S. If you look at the horse figures, you can see that all phases of a horse race can be seen. Almost a flip book on eight whiskey bottles.

Anyone who believes that this carefully thought-out product was immediately successful, is mistaken. In fact, sales were sluggish in the first year. Only 50 barrels of Blanton's were produced. The market had not yet got used to the idea of having a single barrel of bourbon, especially as other distilleries who had been introduced to the concept and invited to do something similar had not been involved. Lee was a bit depressed because it did not seem to work - who wants to cede with a failure - but gradually, the demand increased steadily.

Meanwhile, Blanton's is one of the fixed highlights in the Bourbon market, not only in the US. Meanwhile, for the international markets own bottlings are made, such as the Japanese Edition and the French Edition. Currently, the Buffalo Trace Distillery currently leaves Blanton's bottles of 19,000 barrels a year. Col. Blanton would like that for sure.
Finally, other distilleries recognized the potential of a single barrel variant. Thus, these bottlings from the whiskey market are now indispensable.

How much does a barrel of Blantons costHOW MUCH DOES A BARREL OF BLANTON'S COST?

Blanton's is a combination of the best mais, barley and rye, mixed with pure spring water of limestone and aged in new barrels of charred American oak.

Blantons Single Barrel begins its preparation with the finest corn from Kentucky and Indiana, with selected rye and top barley ground following a rule. When the corn and water reach the correct temperature it is time to add the rye and the malted barley, the which breaks down the starch into sugars. When the dough has cooled, the yeast is added, at that time the bourbon whiskey undergoes a natural fermentation lasting between 3 and 5 days.

This mixture will be called beer and will pass through two stills, the obtained liquid is transferred to barrels of charred virgin white oak where it rests in old warehouses until the Master Distiller decides when to take the Blanton's out of the warehouse.

Once the barrels are selected by the Master Distiller, bottling and packaging will take place. This process is characterized because it is done by hand in its entirety; filling of the bottle, sealing (stopper and wax), labeling, enumeration and put in boxes. Each bottle of Blantons has its number, packing date and warehouse number where it rested.

Blanton's Single Barrel Bourbon is a beverage that was present at the Food Hall and has been chosen the best whiskey in the world in the International Wine and Spirits Competition.

Although Colonel Blanton died in the spring of 1959, his legacy is still alive. Introduced in 1984, Blanton's namesake Bourbon was the first commercially-available Bourbon single barrel. Bourbon's unique barrel is unique in its kind.

The method of preparation is the one that has traditionally been used in the state of Kentucky, using corn, barley and rye. The mixture has been made with pure spring water from limestone and has been aged in new barrels of charred American oak.
