There's a new importer of the high quality single cask range by A.D. Rattray, also known under the name Dewar Rattray. This old family business has been bottling single cask bottles from the very best barrels for many years.
The relationship between A.D. Rattray and WIN goes back quite a bit. they have been importing Cask Islay and Stronachie for a while now, both very tasty and successful whiskies.
They are now also the proud importers of the Single Cask Collection.
Eight different bottlings on cask strength and from all of Scotland. You can read more about the tasting notes below, but we would like highlight some of them.
The two whiskies from Islay are truly very tasty, with the Bowmore 2003 is peated more heavily and has the familiar salty character. The sweetness provides beautiful balance to this whisky. The Bunnanhabhain 2002 is slightly salty, moving to milk chocolate and white spices. This is “Bunna” the way “Bunna” should be.
But they were even more pleasantly surprised by the Fettercairn 2006 and the Glen Moray 2007. Both whiskies do not have the reputation of being heavy hitters, but these two are however very outspoken and tasteful. Statements such as “the best we’ve ever tasted” are always difficult, but these two definitely belong to the very top barrels of these distilleries.
The Fettercairn mixes tropical fruit with sweet toffee and mint and eucalyptus. The Glen Moray starts sweet with coconut and banana, but then provides coffee, cloves and even a puff of peat. Fantastic.
The Tamnavulin 1988 is very soft, but has a very high quality and is a “bargain” for such an old whisky.
Glen Ord 2004, Craigellachie 2003 and Macduff 2006 are all from the Speyside. The Glen Ord is characterised by berries, vanilla-fudge, chocolate and liquorice, whereas the Craigellachie starts with barley and fresh baked shortbread and continues with cinnamon and cloves mixed with yellow fruit. The Macduff is characterised by vanilla, caramel and hazelnut.
We are very impressed with the quality of these bottlings and we know you will be too.
We received great new bottles from A.D. Rattray Cask Collection.... watch out for them here!
